Starting a blog, for me, is a lot like starting a journal. I get a good running start, jump right in and get super excited for about five solid days. I skip one day and end up only journaling every 3 months and then it is pointless to attempt to capture all that has passed, and I give up.

Hopefully, because my blog will be focused more towards the passion for my business aka my passion for African textile aka my love, that it will be a little more consistent than my past.

Little summary to get officially started:

I was born and raised in Jos, Nigeria. My parents were missionaries for 25 years and my entire youth was traveling all over the world.

I always get asked about how my interest in fashion began. In Nigeria, there are only 2 options for clothing, hand me down clothes, or “couture” clothing made from the local seamstresses. For every Christmas, Nigerian Independence Day and Easter, we would go to the market, pick out fabric, take it to a tailor, get our measurements, wait for 2 weeks and poof, a dress was hand delivered that fit you to the centimeter. The picture below is missing my Dad and older sister, but it is from our school’s Nigerian Independence Day celebration and I designed all our outfits.

My mother and a Nigerian seamstress taught me how to sew and I began to design. My mission now, is to create a combination of the African traditional fabric with modern designs with leather, mesh, silk, or suede fabric details.
